Billionaire snatched from London, his body discovered in Manchester and his head 70 miles away
Adnan Abdul Hameed Al-Sane was a Banker from Kuwait who retired to London in 1986 at the age of 38. He traded in stocks and shares as an interest. He also frequented casinos. He lived in Maida Vale area. On the night of December 14 1993, he dined with a business acquaintance at the Brittania Hotel in Grosvenor Square. At midnight he took a taxi home and that was the last time anyone saw him alive. It is believed that he went home and was later snatched from there. On the 16th of December his headless and partially burned naked body apart from underpants was found beneath a railway arch in Piccadilly in Manchester. His badly burned head was found a few weeks later on 27th January by a dog walker 70 miles away, in Staffordshire. It is thought that the head was tossed from a passing car from the nearby motorway. The killer had gone in great length to try and hide the identity of the victim, by hacking away his face with a machete. Officers described the killing as ‘non-professional but methodical’. The head was reconstructed using clay by a Manchester University professor and this became a milestone in identifying Adnan. He was finally identified from a rare metal alloy used in dental work. It is thought that he swallowed a tooth during the attack. Six box files relating to Adnan’s stocks and shares were missing from his apartment after his death. In October 2011 the ‘Independent’ reported that a business associate of his was seriously wounded in a gun attack in Paddington, London. Police were baffled by the vicious attack on him in spite of wide speculation about illicit arms deals back in his country and money feuds. DISCUSSION -Why was the body found in Manchester? -Why did the killer go into such great lengths to hide his identity? -Why was he murdered? You can get a custom monopoly board done, not cheap at £80. I've got no intention of getting one, but was curious as to what an LSC monopoly board would look like. e.g. replace Old Kent Road with Rockaoke @ The AAA. Actually if this has massive interest we could hold a raffle. 16 people put in £5, draw the name out a hat at the next pub crawl, winner gets the board. This happened at another social club I erratically go to. https://www.mymonopoly.com/_dynamic/downloads/Board-Planner.pdf The streets from cheap to posh are :

Suggestions? EDIT I'm inserting names as they come up. Everything can be changed, just prompts a few more ideas hopefully. No exclamation marks allowed. And no swear words. So not 100% certain "The Cock" will pass. Bryan and Horse don't work without an exclamation mark :(
I took a two week study abroad class in London during the winter of my sophomore year of college. As it happened, this was the one year my NFL team, the Dallas Cowboys, made the playoffs, so I had to watch their wild card matchup. In England, football has grown but it's not a huge deal. What's more, the time difference meant that every restaurant in the area closed before the game. So after watching the first game of the night with a huge crowd, I ventured out with one other person from my group to watch the Cowboys game at the only place showing it -- a casino. We met another person there, but she was from a different study abroad trip and stayed in a hotel in the opposite direction. At some point in the night, my buddy decided to leave. With our other counterpart going to a different place, this left me alone to walk back to the hotel. Now I'm a 6'2", 260 pound man, so the encounter that followed didn't really scare me, but several things threw up red flags. I have a bad habit (I guess) of acknowledging people as I walk. Eye contact is not a good thing at 1 am on the Piccadilly. I'm also terrible with directions, and it would have cost a fortune to turn my data on to get directions; my phone was on airplane mode the entire trip. I ended up walking halfway up one side of the street before turning around, then ended up in a darker side street before finding myself on an unfamiliar part of the Piccadilly. So I'm walking and look down at a man sitting against a building. He asks how I'm doing, and I reciprocate. He then asks me if I want to buy some weed. Not learning my lesson, I passed another man and made eye contact. He certainly looked the part of a homeless man, and he began to walk beside me. I really didn't want to converse with anyone, but if he noticed he didn't seem to care. "Where are you from?" he asked. Shoot. I'm from the Midwest and I'm terrible with accents. There was no way I could convincingly say I was from England. "America," I reply. He immediately began to say how lucky I was that I was from America, then launches into his service in the military and how the government had discarded him. He very well might have been telling the truth, but going to school in a major city has taught me to be skeptical of such tales. Then the sales pitch began. He needs 14 pounds to get permanent housing. I had read about the housing crisis in central London. I was in Mayfair, the middle of the city, where single bedroom apartments cost over a million USD per year. There is no way 14 pounds could get him close to housing. However, it did seem about the right price for drugs. I didn't want to explain my conclusion to this sketchy character, so I told him I didn't have any money on me. "I'm willing to walk with you to your hotel and wait outside." Now I'm thinking how I can best throw this guy off before he decides to follow me back anyway. My hand clutched at my pocket knife, because at this point I really wasn't sure what he was going to try. He seemed desperate and pushy. Finally, I had to firmly tell him no, leaving him yelling in the middle of the sidewalk. I looked back a few times to make sure he wasn't still following.
Londoners of r/cricket - World Cup planning (redux)
So back in December I posted this link about rustling up fellow Londoner redditors to watch a few big games of the world cup: http://www.reddit.com/Cricket/comments/2pznag/rcricketers_of_londonlets_talk_world_cup/ There were some rumblings of interest, and I promised to do some research and report back. As expected sports bars like jetlag, walkabout won't stay open all night. The good news is, the Empire Casino (the Carlsberg sports bar) is showing all the matches, and its also open 24 hours! http://www.thecasinolsq.com/bar-details/carlsberg-sports-bar http://www.thecasinolsq.com/uploads/bars/1422616371_4822_657041_carlsberg_web_schedule_february_6.pdf In case you're wondering, the sports bar is in the -1 floor and separate from all the casino-y parts. I went for a wander to check it out and it is pretty decent. Good facilities, good services, light and roomy. You can wander in and out at your leisure and being Leicester Square its reasonably central and right on the northern and piccadilly lines. So I'm resurrecting this thread to start casting about for numbers. The two games I would really love to see with a crowd are NZ vs. Australia in the pools, and the final (whoever its between). So maybe if you want to mention if you're interested for either, or feel free (as with the other thread) to post which games you did want to see for your particular countries to garner up interest for those. I think regardless of whoever's up for pool/knockout matches, I thought maybe we could all get together for the final, and double it as an cricket london kind of event. If I get some feel for numbers - maybe leave this up for a week or so - particularly for the final, and then I'll go back and speak to the guys at the Carlsberg and hopefully reserve some space if it hasn't already been booked out! Ps. If you know non-redditors who want to go as well - add their numbers. More the merrier imo.
AMA: Just spend 3 weeks studying Abroad in Europe. Visited Ireland, Scotland, Amsterdam, London, and Paris
I just got back from a three week trip over to Europe. Two of which were spent studying European sport abroad with a group of kids from my university, ECU, and Miami of Ohio. The third week I took for myself and went to London and Paris by myself, since I was already there figured I might as well. I was staying in a hostel for Scotland/Ireland/Amsterdam and a Marriott in London/Paris. I also went 0 – 5 with countries I was in watching the Euro cup, apparently I’m the reason the US can’t win at soccer. Highlights of my trip include: Scotland: • Edinburgh Castle • Loch Ness • Royal Mile • Bag Pipes • St. Andrews golf course. Ireland: • Guinness Factory • Croke park tour • Played hurling • Saw a hurling game at Croke park • Ireland v. Croatia at a local pub. • Spent a day just walking around Dublin • Bus Tour of city Amsterdam: • Coffee shops • Netherlands v. Germany in a local pub. • Netherlands v. Portugal at a tourist bar • Guided canal tour of the city • Anne Frank house • Bike tour of the city • Pancakes! • Visited Hague university and met local students • Partied with said students at a club in Amsterdam • Saw the I Amsterdam sign Paris: • Watched France game under the Eiffel tower • Climbed to the top of the Eiffel tower • Bus tour of city • The Louvre museum • The thinker and Gates of hell • Was staying beside the Arch • Moulin Rogue London: • London v. Italy at a Casino in Piccadilly circus • Bus tour of city • London Dungeon tour • Saw the Olympic Stadium I was kind of exhausted by the time I got to London, didn’t do much other than walk around town. In every city I went out to a local pub or tourist places just about every night, and got completely addicted to Guinness. I am sure I forgot something so go ahead and ask if I saw something.
The casino floor was busy at the roulette and blackjack tables. Plenty of waiters and the food looked good, even though I didn't order on this occasion. Out of all London casinos I have visited, this was the one I was most disappointed with - solely down to the lack of newer slot games.
